National Minimum Wage
The National Minimum Wage increases with effect from today, 1 October 2012.
The standard adult rate, which now applies to all workers aged 21 or over is now £6.19 per hour (an increase from £6.08 per hour).
The development rate, which applies to workers who are aged between 18 and 20 inclusive, is to remain at £4.98 per hour for another year.
The young workers rate, which applies to workers who are aged under 18, but over the compulsory school age and who are not apprentices, is to remain at £3.68 for another year.
And, the apprenticeship rate, which applies to apprentices who are either aged under 19 or who are 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship is £2.65 per hour (an increase from £2.60 per hour).
Finally, if an employer providers a worker with free accommodation as part of their salary package, then some of its value can be counted towards National Minimum Wage pay. The maximum accommodation offset limit is now £4.82 per day, which is an increase from £4.73 per day.
