Dealing with an estate
Probate and estate administration
The legal experts in our probate team have many years of experience in administering estates of all sizes and complexities and are able to steer a clear and logical path through the administration maze.
what is probate?
Probate is the legal process in which your estate is correctly administered after you die. In practice, this means that when a person passes away, those named in their Will as Executors are left with the responsibility of organising and managing the deceased's possessions. This is known technically as 'Estate Administration'. If there is no Will, or an Executor has either not been appointment or refuses to act, then an Administrator is selected to fulfil the necessary duties.
Our team of legal experts will guide you through the complex and complicated area of administering the estate and reduce the pressures and worries of being an Executor. We can help you to apply for a Grant of Probate, where there is a Will or a Grant of Letters of Administration, where there is no Will and the deceased has died intestate. Whether you choose to administer the estate yourself with our guidance or ask us to take on the complete administration of the estate, we will explain clearly what is involved and offer advice on all aspects of probate.

Team for You – Dealing with an estate
charges
When we deal with the full administration of an estate for a client, the work which we do is charged on a time spent basis. Our quote will take in to account the estimated size and the complexity of the estate and the amount of time which we anticipate it will take to complete the necessary work. The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter and this way our clients are only charged for the amount of time and work which is required. If additional unforeseen work or complexities arise which will result in extra work being needed, we would charge for such additional work on a time spent basis and advise our client of the additional likely costs.

The service was friendly and very appropriate for the needs of a 96 year old client. Excellent.
I was very satisfied with the service I received, I was well informed and felt very valued as a customer. I have recommended the company to clients and told them about your quality of service.
Having being a client for almost 40 years, I think this speaks for itself. A very professional service is provided at all times by all members of the organisation.
My solicitor showed great insight and understanding every step of the way when family issues were difficult following the death of my mother. Her kindness and professionalism was very much appreciated.
I have known various members of this firm for many years although I have not needed your services except on rare occasions. I have always found them friendly and helpful and would be happy to contact them should it be necessary.
I found Ms Johnston very easy to talk to, I could understand her advice and she explained things clearly which does help to get things sorted how I wanted them.
Megan made making my Will a very straight forward but thorough activity. She asked appropriate questions and made soundly based suggestions for my consideration, whilst always acting entirely in accordance with my wishes and instructions. I am happy that my affairs are now in order and I can get on with living my life to the full, with no concerns about how things will be handled in the event of my death (a very long time from now hopefully!).
