Could this signal the end of conveyancing paperwork?

On 27th July 2020 HM Land Registry started to accept electronic signatures which signals the possibility for the entire conveyancing process to be done electronically.

Chris Brierley, Head of Residential Property at Eaton Smith commented; “HM Land Registry has removed the last austere requirements to print and sign a paper document in the conveyancing process. This is a great step forward, especially in the current climate when so many people are working at home and embracing new technology. The demand for which going forward is sure to grow.”

HM Land Registry now accepts witnessed electronic signatures for transfers of property ownership, leases, mortgages, and other property-related dealings. The documents will be uploaded onto an online platform for the signatories to sign in the physical presence of a witness.
