Compensation for Domestic Abuse

The number of domestic abuse crimes recorded by the police in England and Wales in the year ending March 2021 increased by 6% to 845,734. The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 aims to provide further protection to those who experience domestic abuse and strengthen measures to tackle perpetrators.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority compensates victims of violent crimes, including domestic abuse and sexual abuse although no amount of compensation can ever be enough for what a victim has suffered, and compensation will be last thing on a victim’s mind.

However, having compensation awarded by the CICA can bring some satisfaction and justice to the victim and is recognition of what they have been through.

Lindsay Preston in our Personal Injury Department has over 25 years’ experience and has extensive knowledge of the CICA scheme. She has supported numerous victims of domestic abuse and sexual abuse in successful applications to the CICA, priding herself on fighting for the best outcome. Lindsay is also a Trustee at Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership allowing her to continue supporting domestic abuse charities.

At Eaton Smith/YesPI we will do everything to support victims in CICA claims and offer free initial consultations with no win no fee and fixed fees if successful.
