Legal Advisor - Care & Matrimonial
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To provide full support to fee earners within the care department

MAIN DUTIES
  • Attendances with clients - take statements, reading and analysing all statements and other documents
  • Make applications to LSC for funding on behalf of clients
  • To run own caseload
  • Conduct case law research
  • Travel to and from local courts
  • Liaise with barrister's chambers in (Leeds and Bradford)
  • Work very closely with the department's fee earners
  • Attend hearings with counsel and attend direction hearings in person where appropriate
  • Prepare instructions to experts and counsel. Generally carryout all work necessary for progress of public and private children cases
  • Prepare trial bundles
  • To aim to achieve billing, time and matter related targets, to control disbursements and to render bills and recover bills promptly for the overall benefit of the LLP where applicable
  • To represent the practice to external organisations as required by the Partners and to contribute to the general standing of the practice in the community


PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

  • You will be qualified to undertake advocacy in the magistrates and county court
  • A legal qualification is desirable preferably with knowledge and experience of care and matrimonial affairs, with the emphasis being on care
  • Proven advocacy experience
  • Experience of counsel and directions hearings
  • Experience of LSC funding and applications
  • A high level of interpersonal skills including written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Word and Outlook
  • Co-operative and self confident when dealing with client enquiries
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team and be prepared to adapt and act with initiative
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Possess tact and common sense
  • Ability to meet time and cost targets
